Importance of Hydration
Importance of Hydration
by Devon Marcin, RN
We have all heard the about the recommendation to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water a day to meet our daily hydration goals. Much easier said than done! This has been used as a general guideline for hydration recommendations, although needed water intake can vary for each person, depending on one’s activity level, size, and other medical conditions. This article https://familydoctor.org/hydration-why-its-so-important/ explains why proper hydration is so important: “Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue and organ in your body needs water to work properly. Your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. Water is needed for overall good health.”
Staying properly hydrated and meeting your daily hydration goals are not always easy. Although plain water is the best source for replenishment, daily water intake goals can be met with the addition of fruits, vegetables, juices, soup broth, and sports drinks. Other tips to increase water intake would be having a reusable water bottle with you during the day for easy and quick access to water, adding fresh fruits to water for added flavor or even setting a timer or developing a schedule to remind yourself to drink.
