LIFE HACK: HAPPIER
“I want to be happy.”
Depending on which study you read, happiness is the end game for most people on the planet. I was fortunate to study under one of the leading voices in Positive Psychology (the science of happiness and success), Professor Tal Ben-Shahar, for a year while obtaining certification in Applied Positive Psychology. It was a life changing experience. He is one of those indefatigable fountains of wisdom that inspires you to grow personally through inquiry and then share the wisdom with all that will listen.
Positive Psychology informs much of the work I do at Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health as the Behavioral Therapist. Taking a strength-based approach to challenges like anxiety and depression to weight management is simply a natural fit. In this quick little video, Dr. Ben-Shahar gives you 5 ways to start being happier TODAY. Those of you who have worked with me with certainly recognize the themes present in this quick life hack: acceptance, positive relationships, engagement, gratitude, and exercise. As it is colorectal cancer awareness month, pay close attention to the segment about the benefits of exercise! No better adjunct than exercise for any strategy to increase overall well-being!
At Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health we take a holistic approach and embrace all the latest evidence that science has to offer. Dietary and behavioral interventions have strong scientific evidence supporting their efficacy in functional gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and weight management. We love the idea of using non-medication tools that can empower the individual patient to impact their own condition.
The team at Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health is eager to help you achieve your wellness goals. Consultations with the behavioral coach/counselor and dietitian are usually covered by standard commercial health insurance and we can help you figure out your coverage.
