ALWAYS LEARNING! Dr. Tara Troy recently attended an excellent conference on the gut microbiome in Rome

The clinicians at Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Health are fascinated by the gut microbiome and its impact on health and wellness. For a refresher, the gut microbiome contains an estimated 500-1000 species and 100 trillion organisms, encoding 100-fold more genes than our own DNA. When balanced, there is a symbiotic relationship between gut bacteria and our human cells that play a critical role in your immune function, gut motility, and nutrient absorption.

Dysbiosis is defined as the the disruption of the composition and/or diversity of the gut microbiome. The causes of dysbiosis can be attributed to stress, diet, hygiene, and use of antibiotics. Dysbiosis has been associated with numerous conditions including neurologic, metabolic, liver, inflammatory, and infectious diseases.

We aim to keep up to date with all of the potential therapies (nutrition, supplements, and medications) that can remedy dysbiosis and optimize an individual’s health and wellness.

If you or someone you know would like to learn more about the profound effects that nutrition, stress, supplements, and medications can have on health, please contact us today. We have a fantastic team of gastroenterologists, registered dietitians, nurse practitioners, and a behavioral health counselor to help you build a better microbiome and improve your overall health. MANY OF THESE SERVICES ARE LIKELY TO BE COVERED BY INSURANCE. Please call us at 224-407-4400 or email [email protected].
